Dear Families,

Welcome to Crestwood St. Elementary’s website! I hope you take the time to view the different pages and help us make our communication to you a lot easier.  This webpage is one of many innovative tasks we are working on this school year.  For the 2017-18 year, we have been approved as a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) Academy by our local district superintendent.  As a part of our STEAM integration, room 33 has been converted into a STEAM Lab for all children to take part in high-level inquiry-based learning activities.  Ms. Lim, former 3rd grade teacher, agreed to leave the classroom as our coordinator and will be in charge of our new STEAM lab.

Our parent’s commitment to turning in a meal application last year not only helped with our STEAM integration, it also helped us meet our technology goal a full year early! By 2018, all K-2nd grade classrooms will have a minimum of six iPads per class and our 3rd – 5th graders will have access to a chromebook at a 2:1 ratio.”  Please turn in a meal application every year so we can continue transforming our school and preparing your children for 21st century skills.  Our funding really depends on it!

The community, parents, students, and school staff are all key elements of making Crestwood an incredible place to learn.  We have many great activities that are driven by this dedicated team.  Please continue to attend and volunteer your time during our monthly activities (PTO, back to school nights, recognition assemblies, STEAM activities, Art to Grow On projects, etc.).  Your help strengthens our belief and commitment to working together for the betterment of our children.

Should you have any concerns during the school year, please attempt to resolve them with your child’s teacher first if it is a classroom matter. However, if it is a school-wide matter, please contact me by phone or by appointment to discuss it so that it can be resolved appropriately and in a timely manner.

I also encourage you to follow us on our new Twitter page at @lausdcrestwood and also on Facebook.

Sincerely,

Ron Tanimura
